Who is Dr. Pack?

Dr. Lou Pack’s unique
medical credentials and over thirty years of clinical experience, have enabled
him to develop the “Precision Sports Method” of optimizing (not just simply
correcting) biomechanical structural abnormalities of the lower extremities.
Based upon the premise that no one is structurally perfect and that the foot
is the basis of all sports performance, he finds these overlooked deficiencies
and increases flexibility, stability and alignment. This can mean increased
speed, agility, balance and strength as well as decreased injuries for you.
Dr. Pack comes from a
medical family with a cousin who was Chief of Neurology and Dean of the
Medical School at the famed Mayo Clinic and another who is a very prominent
cardiologist in Atlanta. His dad and other family members were pharmacists.
He became interested in
medicine at a very early age while working in his dad’s drug store in N.Y.
Feeling that pharmacy would be a far better background than obtaining a BA or
BS degree, Dr. Pack attended the Brooklyn College of Pharmacy before entering
medical school in N.Y. He did his internship there as well and then went to
California where he completed his residency training in surgery and
biomechanics. Following his formal training, Dr. Pack pursued a Master’s
degree in Surgery. At the time he received this very specialized degree there
were only a handful of physicians who had achieved this. Dr. Pack then came to
Atlanta where he has practiced since 1973.
Dr. Pack began lecturing on medical subjects while still a student. Involved
in teaching his entire professional career, he is a nationally known lecturer
and author and has done presentations abroad as well. He has developed many
surgical modifications to existing procedures, published numerous articles and
has contributed to a number of medical text books. . Dr. Pack is the recipient
of the prestigious “Winged Foot” award for his contributions to his medical
specialty.
He has had a keen interest in sports injuries and enhanced performance since
he began running in 1972. He believes we all have some structural
abnormalities (no one is perfect) and that these cause decreased performance
and increase the risks of injuries. In many instances, these structural
problems remain undiagnosed until injuries occur. Dr. Pack believes that
almost any athlete in any sport can be made to perform better through
structural analysis. He feels that very few other physicians seem to be
paying attention to this neglected aspect of sports performance. Dr. Pack has
also had great success in helping arthritic patients decrease symptoms in
their weight bearing joints (foot, ankles, knees, hips and back) by improving
alignment and therefore decreasing the stress on those joints.
Dr. Pack’s unique practice
involves biomechanical / structural analysis, designing unique, performance
enhancing inserts and video analysis to show enhanced performance
for athletes in all sports. He has developed unique foot inserts for many
sports including figure skating, track and field events, gymnastics and golf.
